How to document water damage with photos

Water damage photos only help later if someone can find the room. Document by location first. This is a field method, not a claims-outcome promise.

Walk the structure, not the camera roll

Start at the source if you know it, then every wet room. Take wide shots of the room, then details (baseboard, flooring, ceiling stain). Write the room name if you must, but do not stop there. A caption of “kitchen” still fails when the house has two.

Pin as you go

1. Load the floor plan in FotoLedger (or any plan-based tool you use in the field).
2. Place a waypoint on each affected room or zone.
3. Attach the photos you just took at that pin.
4. Add a short note: standing water, category if you know it, what was removed.
5. Attach moisture logs as PDFs to the same rooms they describe.
